Why God MUST be SOVEREIGN.
Sovereign; simply put, a supreme ruler. And the meaning of supreme: One who holds a position that is superior to all others. Most of us that believe we know God would dare to say that He Is sovereign in our lives. However, if there are people and things that bear superiority in His presence, then He is not sovereign. At least not in our lives. This is going to be a very in-depth teaching which by its end will reveal to you how it is that we as a people have actually taken away the sovereignty of God. The question I post to you now is, what will you do with the revelation of the truth.
There is a final state of being that comes from not allowing God to be sovereign in our lives. For the absence of His sovereignty allows us the power to dictate right and wrong in our own lives. Here’s just one area of the scriptures that described that final state of being. I’m going to break these verses down to the core and I pray that as you read, you will examine yourself to see if any of these attributes may have inadvertently penetrated your own lives
II Timothy 3:1-8
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
The first point I’d like to make is that verse one says “In the last days perilous time shall come”; but haven’t times been perilous since the exit from the garden? They truly have, within the world, but these scriptures are telling us how things shall come to be among many of us who declare the name of the Lord. The evidence that this is speaking of the body is found in verse 4 and 5 when it says,” Loving pleasure more than God, and having a form of Godliness, but denying the power thereof.” It even told us how we should deal with such people; from such turn away.
Going back to verse 2 says,” Lovers of their own selves.” This in itself is the act of denying God the right to sovereignty in your life. Loving self above all things demands that everything be by your own understanding, always trusting your own point of view and needing clarity from nothing. Next state is covetous.
“Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.”
Covet simply means yearn to possess, and in today’s world there is a lot more things to be coveted than we find in this one commandment of God. And this attribute is one that runs ramped amongst the professed body of Christ. This is such an issue that it was even dealt with in the foundation when God revealed His commandment to us. Boasters, Proud, Blasphemers; I believe that the three of these belong together because one encourages the other. Most that walk with these attributes have no idea the damage that they do in the lives of them who desire to walk in truth. They constantly brag about accomplishment of the hand with a proud arrogance; belittling the less accomplished lives of the brethren. Even committing blasphemy by declaring the hand and blessing of the Lord as being the element of there accomplishment when they bear no commitment to Him.
Disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy: There is no one in there lives that bear power to bring subjectivity, because they are only obedient to their own endeavor. Therefore, they can not be thankful for sound spiritual guidance, because they do not bear the holiness that is required for discernment of the Spirit. Without natural affection: This means so much more than you might imagine. When speaking of natural affections this scripture was not referring the corruption of natural affections between a man and a woman. Bu the natural affections that come from the heart of one who is available to the mercies of God. These are they that can see a brother in a point of need and have power to help, and will offer no more than,” Have faith brother, the Lord will make away.” They can attend a fellowship, and upon leaving they can’t see the mother and children on the bus stop as the impending storm approaches, so they pass them up. Having no natural affections, they are unavailable to the merciful directives of God.
Trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good. Diplomacy is a wonderful in the face of conflict, but these are they that will happily declare acceptance and understanding in the resolution of a conflict, but then they embrace the issue, holding tight to resentment, and are more than willing to share it with others.
“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.”
In violation of the Commandments they take joy in producing questions and suspicions of other peoples credibility through invalidated accusations. I have seen a number of small church’s unable to grow, emptying out every so often because of these false accusers. They are in-content with their own relationship with God therefore anger is their disposition. Despising those whose commitment allows them they power to walk with love for others to the glorification of God.
Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. Bearing the spirit of a traitor, they can not be trusted because they will in fact betray you as they daily betray God. Being heady their actions are rashly impetuous. Always hastily acting without due consideration. Their high minded state always exalting their feelings or intellectual principles above another. It is no longer the God of all creation that brings them joy, but the compromised pleasures of this world.
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. They do in fact know the God of all creation. But their life has reached a point where there is no discernment of some things that are required in order to serve Him. They now serve Him from there place of perception, denying His power, and trusting their own. There is no way to stand in the rain and not get wet. Exposure to them that bear the attributes of these scriptures can be like a bad bleach in the wash, it will turn the clothes yellow. Therefore the word warns us,” From such turn away.” These are ever learning and never coming to the knowledge of the truth. For they resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
This is the ending of not allowing the sovereignty of God in your life. But understand one thing, If God is not sovereign, something or someone else is. The question I pose to you is, is it you that’s sovereign, or someone else. Are all your choices based on what you want rather than what you know to be right with God. The year 2020 was a revelation of the self-endeavored nature of our nation. I have sat back and watch the things that transpired first with frustration, but then God called my emotions to submission, that I might see through His eyes. And what I saw was the fellowships of Christ being forced to reveal the self endeavored nature of our existence. We have unknowingly come to the place where our own desires and intent have become the sovereign nature of our lives.
Some of us fell in love with Donald Trump; he declares Christ so he is considered a brother in Christ, but he bears every attribute of II Timothy 3. Look, a mother who loves her son that brings her a couple thousand dollars a week with no job knows that he’s doing something illegal. But when he’s arrested for drug dealing she fights with every bit of her strength to prove that the dealer of death is a good person and has done nothing wrong; but is that what God is saying? We cannot create an alternate truth by denying the reality before us. We are quick to hear people around us telling us things that appease how we feel, and we will listen to them to the point where we find ourselves outside the US Capitol breaking windows. But there is no truth accept what God is saying, and he’s always talking to those who seek His voice. Many don’t hear Him because His words don’t match what they want to hear. The things that we look to hear are too often the things that serve the nature of men: presidents, pastors, etc. This is what God said about the choice we make on what we will listen too. Because regardless of what choice we make, foundationally we surely understand the difference between spiritual truth and compromise
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
God cannot lie, both of these readings from II Timothy and Romans make it clear that many who would come to know Him and even understand the Godhead, would wall by the wayside in love of lies and deception. It’s easy to love a lie, all you have to do is reject the truth. And the truth can be found in the reality of your commitment to God. Does your life walk through a kingdom where He is A sovereign Lord over all? Or is there a possible compromise in your dedication of submission to Him? Search the attributes of these scriptures, and seek His revelation of the things that may have power to push you into the state of a reprobate mind. Too often there are things that God desires to reveal to us, but He knows we won’t hear Him. But your desire to see unknown truth will draw Him near.
If you had a new relationship with someone and saw that they idolized other things that took time from you, you would most likely leave them alone until they can decide that they want you around all the time. Because you’re jealous. We serve a God who can rightfully be jealous because He created us to serve Him. He said he’ll never leave nor forsake you, but we leave His Sovereignty but expect it to serve our needs. Even after we’ve denied the power thereof. Lets search our lives and find the elements by which we have given sovereignty to something other than the God of all creation.
